Merry Christmas, friends! I hope that you are experiencing a beautiful Christmas season and are filled with the hope of Christ as you look into the coming new year. I wanted to pop up a quick post to share two exciting announcements about my book- a cover reveal, and preorder information!
Through the Year with Jesus: Gospel Readings and Reflections for Children from Emmaus Road Publishing should be out in mid February and can now be preordered at the St. Paul Center and on Amazon.
I'll be sharing more in the coming weeks, including freebies to go along with the book, special pre-order bonuses (update- get them here!), and giveaways, but for now I'll leave you with the back cover description of the book, and a few kind words from those that have already read it. Feel free to drop any questions in the comment box. I'm so, so thrilled to be able to share this resource for homes and classrooms with you!

I'm so excited for this book! What ages is it best for? Would it be appropriate to use with a 5 year old or is it more for older children?
ReplyDeleteGood question! Because it was designed to support conversations between kids and their parents/teachers, it really has applications for ages 4-14. Each entry has tons of resources to choose from, so with littles you can read a few verses from the Scripture, look at the Sacred Art, and use just one of the discussion questions. Older kids could read all of it, even on their own, and go deeper by using the Lectio Divina prompts for journaling or put some of the practical applications to use. I’m hoping to be able to share some inside snapshots soon that will hopefully show how it could work for a wide range of ages and in both the home and classroom! More specifically to your question, my oldest niece and nephews are between 4.5-6 years and it would totally be usable with them! But I also am looking forward to having it on my shelf in my classroom and using the Lectio Divina prompts and art with my 6th-8th graders. I really tried to offer enough to support the adult and make it flexible for the child!
DeleteThank you Katie- I am so excited!

DeleteOh Katie Anne,
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you! Angels and Saints are dancing in the meadows of Heaven. What's next?
Thank you for your encouragement, Dianne!
DeleteDoes it align with Sunday readings?
ReplyDeleteOh, good question! Instead of aligning with the ABC Reading Cycle, we instead wanted to make it useable year after year and follow the "narrative" of Christ's life. The chosen readings from the Gospels fit within the theme of the Liturgical Seasons, and extra entries are included to allow for changes in the calendar as well as the days of Holy Week. That way you can choose a reading based on where we are in the Liturgical Calendar, pick a story a child shows interest in, match up a reading from Mass using the Table of Contents, or use the reflections to pray the Rosary (a guide is included), etc. Hope that helps!
DeleteThis is so exciting! I just placed my pre-order, and can't wait to crack it open!
